Pride 2018
Today marks the first day of LGBT Pride 2018. Pride takes place every June, and is a month long series of events where the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community get together to create a positive stance against discrimination and celebrate their march towards equal rights.
Stonewall Riots
June is chosen because it’s the same month that the Stonewall Riots took place in 1969. The Stonewall Riots were a series of often violent protests in New York, that called for establishments to be opened where gay and lesbian people could go and be open about their sexual orientation, without the fear of arrest. These riots had a huge impact and effectively started the LGBT rights movement.

Here in Manchester, we have a large LGBT community; which is yet another testament to the tolerant and accepting nature of our wonderful city. Manchester’s Gay Village is so famous, that it attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the city each year.
