About Danny

Art has always been my main interest for as long as I can remember, it’s always been the thing I can confidently say that I’m good at. In school I struggled with other subjects, I hated maths because I couldn’t ever understand it, but I never had that issue when it came to art.

When I got to about 12/13 I had a rough idea that I wanted to go into tattooing but I didn’t really know much about it, so I started buying books on tattooing and watching TV programs/YouTube videos of people being tattooed and realised this was definitely what I wanted to do.

When I was 16 I started working on my portfolio of tattoo designs and was trying to figure out a way in, when I turned 17 I ended up getting a job in an office and tattooing was still always in the back of my mind but life started to get in the way and before I knew it I was in my mid 20’s and still no closer to my dream of being a tattoo artist.

When I turned 25 I decided that even though I was busy with working in the office, I was going to restart my portfolio and actively try and get myself an apprenticeship instead of just sitting thinking about it all the time. When I wasn’t working I was drawing.

When I’d got a few pieces of work that I was happy with together, I started heading into studios to see if they needed an apprentice, or if they had any tips on how to start. A few months went by and I was still no closer to an apprenticeship so I decided to change the way I went about it and instead of going into studios like I had been, I started reaching out to studios via Instagram with pictures of my work to see if there’s was any openings for an apprenticeship.

Sharp Art Studios got back to me and invited me in for a day to see what the shop was like and meet everyone and at the end of the day said they’d like to offer me an apprenticeship, I’ve been here now for 4 months and I’ve loved every second of it. I love how every day is different, getting to chat with clients and see what it is that they’re getting, and learning every day from the other 4 amazing artists in the studio.

I’ve still got a lot to learn but I think I’m picking it up pretty quickly and I’m 100% confident that tattooing is what I was meant to be doing, so I’m so happy that I’m finally doing it and so grateful to the studio and artists for not only giving me the opportunity to become a tattoo artist, but all helping me get there.
