Annie Broome (aka “Junior”) is the newest member of the Sharp Art team. She began her apprenticeship late 2018 and completed it – starting full time early 2020.
Ever since I can remember I’ve always been absorbed in art, it was my favourite subject at school but it was also my favourite thing to do at home. It was around the end of high school when everyone was choosing what college/uni they wanted to go… I didn’t have a clue what to do… then someone suggested tattoo artist, it was like a light bulb moment, I always doodled on myself and I found tattooing such a cool and unique way of expressing myself, it was perfect!
I knew I needed to find an apprenticeship so I started practicing and learning about tattooing and the different styles. I then put a portfolio together to take to some studios I liked the look of… easy! Ha! How wrong I was. It took me about 3 years all together to find an apprenticeship. Then I got invited to come to Sharp Art Studios, as soon as I walked in I loved it, friendly, happy supportive environment and to top it all off there is 4 incredible artist all willing to teach me… on my first day I walked out with a snazzy new tattoo from Finn… I was hooked! Everything happens for a reason!
I love that no day at the studio is the same, no tattoo is the same, it pushes me to better myself and try to improve my drawing and tattooing skills. I love doing any kind of symmetrical, pattern work/ornamental designs, I’m a perfectionist so it challenges me to do better and get it absolutely perfect. I also love any dot-work style designs, as this was my favourite way to draw. Although out of my comfort zone I would love to do more traditional style tattoos, I find the thick black lines and bold colours so interesting.
I’ve been tattooing for over a year now and I can happily say my dreams are coming true. I get to work with friends and get creative…I’m on to a winner! The fact that so many people have trusted me to put my art on their skin forever is very humbling. I put my all into everything I create so to see someone walk out with a smile makes it all worth it. I’m so happy that things turned out how they did, as I now get to work with an amazing team who inspire me to constantly learn more and do better, I’ll forever be grateful.
